From time eternal Russian pioneers have been researching the polar latitudes. 70 years ago four brave Papaninites landed at the North Pole, and today the Russian “polyarnics” keep the ball rolling.
The program of the International Polar Year includes the High-latitude Arctic expedition “Arctic-2007” which meaning for Russian can not be overestimated as it is the largest expedition to high Arctic latitudes for the recent years. Today over a hundred of scientists from ten scientific institutions make wide researches.

On August 2nd, 2007 the deep water manned vehicles “Mir-1” and “Mir-2” dived to the Arctic ocean floor and set the Russian flag there! The bathyscaphes laid the capsule with Russian flag and a message for descendants, and the soil and fauna analysis will help to define the borders of Russian arctic continental plate.

The patriotic spirit of the whole expedition was encouraged by MVK which is the information partner of the expedition “Arctic-2007”.
The exhibits of the museum “Role of HISTORY in life and business” have once again appeared in the movement. Together with the hydronauts they dived to the bottom of Arctic ocean at the North Pole point! Russian flag and the polar museum’s exhibits: navigational log-book of M. Gromov, MVK ship’s log of “Arctic-2007” expeditions dived in the “Mir-1” bathyscaphe to 4,261 meters. The diving was as complicated as the exit into space. One more symbolic fact is that the Russians were the first to explore the Arctic ocean bottom after 50 years of the first USSR satellite launching. Captain of “Mir-1” Anatoly Sagalevich wrote in MVK’s log: “We set the flag of the Russian Federation on the floor of Arctic ocean”.

As stated by the Special representative of the President of the Russian Federation on issues of the International polar year and head of the expedition Arthur Chilingarov: “Russia is a great polar empire!”. And his words “I congratulate all the Russians on reaching the North Pole of the Earth!” are stamped in the hearts of every Russian citizen.

The head of the project “North Pole – Role of HISTORY in life and business”, Director of the Polar museum Alexey Shaburov underlined: “We clearly realize the meaning of this event for Russia, for exploration and development of our polar lands. “Arctic-2007” is already part of history. Being a part of our life this expedition has widen the borders of MVK polar museum dedicated to the history of Arctic explorations. We see our mission in keeping the heroic deeds of the polar explorers whose moral courage opened new horizons in science and started a new heroic and bright page in history, and revealed the hidden abilities of a human, of a Russian! The life in Arctic is romantic and hard, it is beautiful and extreme. It is full of loneliness and at the same time human interaction, and true friendship.
